Allow us to
introduce ourselves. We are Josh and Sara Porter, the owners
of Avalon Studios. We would like to share with you a little bit
about ourselves and who we are. Josh is originally from East
Grand Forks, MN, and Sara is from Baxter, MN. We met at
Northwestern College in Roseville, MN as art students. When we
met, we were both very interested in art and music and found
common ground immediately.
The first years
of our marriage were spent in St Paul. Josh was employed at
Tivoli Too, a Sculpture and Design studio where he was involved
with a number of projects and clients that are listed on the
experience page. One of the most exciting experiences worth
noting was the Peanuts on Parade commemorative to Charles
Shultz. The first year of the event, Josh was commissioned to
design and paint four statues: Groovy Snoopy, Riverboat Captain,
Joe the Grinder, and Explorer Snoopy. (We cannot post Snoopy
photos on this site due to copyright issues.)
Those statues
sparked a dream to continue work in this art field on our own.
What started as a dream turned to reality in 2002, when we moved
to Baxter, Sara’s home town. A new life began when “Avalon
Studios” was born. The word, “Avalon” is sometimes used in
reference to heaven. In some ways, this name is appropriate, as
we continually remind ourselves of God’s blessings pouring down
on us from heaven. We truly feel that we are living our dream!
Currently, we
reside in Merrifield, MN with two daughters, two cats and a
purple elephant. (The elephant is currently for sale if you are
interested) We are thrilled to be part of the Lakes Area
community. We hope you enjoy our website and will write us your
